Art Gallery
Located on Astna Square in the centre ofClonakilty, The Gallery
is an integral part of the Interactive Art Studio. The gallery is
currently displaying the work of resident artist Jon Mitton and
local artists Len Clatworthy (sculpture) Nigel Hannon (stained glass)
Monika Skorupska, painting and Niamh O'Rielly Ceramic Sculpture.
Having relocated to Clonakilty in 1998, multi-media artist Jon Mitton
has launched his own take on the art gallery experience. Jon's Assemblages
utilise everyday common objects such as shoes, false teeth and other
consumer paraphernalia that litter our lives to construct mini worlds.
With works in collections worldwide, Jon is now making his mark
on West Cork as one of its most contemporary artists.
The Gallery also offers a unique Artists website WestCorkArts.com
It is a portal site for the multitude of creative practitioners
based in West Cork and beyond.
The purpose of this site is to provide an online showcase for creatives
that is affordable and easily accessible. We have created a place
on the internet that mirrors the spirit and community of the artists
within the West Cork area, avoiding the corporate style that swamps
the internet today.
